FEMA Region V Begins Webinars to Inform Applicants on the 2012 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Application Process.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) would like to invite Congressional offices and constituents to attend a series of webinars intended to inform applicants of the 2012 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program application process.

The start of the 2012 Assistance to Firefighters application period is tentatively scheduled for June 4, 2012. In an effort to meet the needs of the fire services’ budget and time constraints, Region V will be conducting interactive webinars in addition to onsite workshops.

The webinar and onsite workshop schedule is posted on the FEMA Fire Grant website: www.fema.gov/firegrants

Please let your constituents know that the online webinars will begin today, Tuesday, May 15 2012 and will continue through May 31, 2012. Attached, for your information, is the webinar schedule with the dates and times.

To join in the webinar, the participant needs to sign on to the posted web address.  They must also call the conference number listed and when requested, enter the PIN number. All participants will be able to see the workshop slide presentation and have the opportunity to ask questions.

Announcement - Job Opening Firefighter/Paramedic at The Palos Fire Protection District

The Palos Fire Protection District will establish an initial eligibility list for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. Applications will be available May 21, 2012 through June 4, 2012, during the hours of 09:00 AM to 4:00 PM, M-F, at Palos Fire Protection District station #1, located at 8815 W. 123rd Street, Palos Park, IL 60464. Applicants must appear in person and show a valid driver’s license as proper identification to obtain an application; one application per person. Completed applications must be filed in person during the hours of 09:00 AM 4:00 PM M-F. Applications must be received by the District no later than June 4, 2012, 4:00 PM. Any application received after June 4, 2012 at 4:00 PM will not be considered.

The board formulates and enforces rules and regulations for safe and proper construction, installation, repair, use, and operation of boilers and pressure vessels in the state.

The Board regulates construction, operation, inspection, testing, maintenance, alteration and repair of elevators and other conveyances.The Board consists of 17 members: nine Board members shall constitute a quorum. A quorum is required for all Board decisions.

The Commission advises State Fire Marshal on fire protection, investigation, and prevention and other duties required by law.

Fire Fighting Medal of Honor Committee

The Committee is responsible for developing an annual award program to recognize fire fighters who were killed, seriously hurt, or displayed exceptional bravery or heroism in the line of duty; working with fire-fighting organizations in state to designing, develop, and procure a Fire Fighting Medal of Honor; selecting an appropriate date or occasion for presentation.
