GRANTS AND REVOLVING LOANS

* * * * ANNOUNCEMENT * * * * FY15 SMALL EQUIPMENT GRANT

The Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) has been appropriated $1,000,000 for the State of Illinois Small Equipment Grant Program. The purpose of this program is to provide grants directly to local units of government for the purchase of small equipment by a fire department, fire protection district or township fire department. These grants may not exceed $26,000 to any fire department or fire protection district.

The open application period, is starting Friday, August 1, 2014 and ending Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Please find the application and W-9 forms at the links below.

Please note: The NFIRS requirement has changed as stated on the application. When downloading the application you will find examples of the NFIRS requirement (Monthly Incident Counts report) for your reference. These reports are required as an addition to the application. IDNR Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant Program Financial Assistance Grant Period Opens

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) has been awarded federal funds from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service for approximately $300,000. This money is part of a national allotment for rural fire protection under the Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act of 1978, as amended by the Forest Stewardship Act of 1990. Payments pursuant to this grant are subject to the appropriation of adequate funds by the United States Congress. The funds will be distributed to fire fighting agencies as a 50-50 reimbursement type grant with a maximum award of $10,000.00. Fire Departments must have funds available for the entire project cost at the time of application and be able to expend the entire project cost initially and then submit invoices and payment documentation to IDNR for 50% reimbursement of the total costs.

Illinois Finance Authority - Rural Development Loan Program

In participation with the Rural Development Administration's Intermediary Relending Program, the Illinois Finance Authority will finance business facilities and community development located in rural communities with populations of less than 25,000. Loan proceeds may be used to finance the purchase of land, construction or renovation of an industrial or commercial building, construction or improvement of infrastructure or purchase of machinery and equipment.

  • Eligibility
    In order for a fire department, fire protection district or township fire department to be eligible for any grant or revolving loan offered through the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal (OSFM), the department must be in compliance with the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) for a minimum of 24 months prior to the open application period. This program provides interest-free loans to local units of government in Illinois for the purchase of ambulances by a fire department, fire protection district, township fire department or non-profit ambulance service.

Fire Station Revolving Loan Program

This program provides interest-free loans to local units of government in Illinois for the construction, rehabilitation, remodeling, or expansion of a fire station or the acquisition of land for the construction or expansion of a fire station by a fire department, fire protection district or township fire department.

 

$2,000,000

Repayment period may not exceed 25 years.

To date, this program has not been funded.
