FEMA Region V Begins Webinars to Inform Applicants on the 2012 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Application Process.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) would like to invite Congressional offices and constituents to attend a series of webinars intended to inform applicants of the 2012 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program application process.

The start of the 2012 Assistance to Firefighters application period is tentatively scheduled for June 4, 2012. In an effort to meet the needs of the fire services’ budget and time constraints, Region V will be conducting interactive webinars in addition to onsite workshops.

The webinar and onsite workshop schedule is posted on the FEMA Fire Grant website: www.fema.gov/firegrants

Please let your constituents know that the online webinars will begin today, Tuesday, May 15 2012 and will continue through May 31, 2012. Attached, for your information, is the webinar schedule with the dates and times.

To join in the webinar, the participant needs to sign on to the posted web address.  They must also call the conference number listed and when requested, enter the PIN number. All participants will be able to see the workshop slide presentation and have the opportunity to ask questions.

Announcement - Job Opening Firefighter/Paramedic at The Palos Fire Protection District

The Palos Fire Protection District will establish an initial eligibility list for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. Applications will be available May 21, 2012 through June 4, 2012, during the hours of 09:00 AM to 4:00 PM, M-F, at Palos Fire Protection District station #1, located at 8815 W. 123rd Street, Palos Park, IL 60464. Applicants must appear in person and show a valid driver’s license as proper identification to obtain an application; one application per person. Completed applications must be filed in person during the hours of 09:00 AM 4:00 PM M-F. Applications must be received by the District no later than June 4, 2012, 4:00 PM. Any application received after June 4, 2012 at 4:00 PM will not be considered.

2012 ARSON AWARENESS WEEK STARTS SUNDAY MAY 6TH

As the National Arson Awareness Week kicks off Sunday, May 6th, the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal (OSFM) urges residents to educate themselves on the devastating effects of arson and to engage in simple activities aimed at preventing arson incidents. Every year, fires caused by delinquent acts affect the lives of thousands of families and cause more than $1 billion in property loss across the country.

Roster of Certified Assessors

The Office maintains a roster of assessors certified by the Joint Labor and Management Committee (JLMC) pursuant to Section 50 of the Fire Department Promotion Act (50 ILCS 742/50), including a 3 page resume for each. Parties to the promotional process may (1) review the roster and select your own assessors, (2) ask the Office to provide you a random list of assessors, or (3) you may submit a special request to the Office to provide you a list of assessors.

Request a Random List

Upon confirmation of your request for a random list, the OSFM shall:
  1. Select at random from the roster a panel numbering not less than 2 times the number of assessors requested and will provide you their contact information and resumes.
  2. You must notify the Office within 7 days of the receipt of the list the assessors you have selected. If you fail to notify the Office of your selection within the 7 days, the Office shall appoint the assessors from the list provided [50 ILCS 742/50(Section 145.70 (f))].

Special Requests

In the event you have agreed to a selection process and only want the Office to provide you a specific number of randomly selected assessors or for another agreed to purpose, your special request must be in writing and include an explanation of the purpose of the request. Your request may be denied [50 ILCS 742/50(Section 145.80 (b))].
